School counsellors on better footing in blog management

Some 14 counsellors from 10 schools in the Belait and Tutong Districts attended a workshop on blog creation at Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School yesterday.

Counsellor Cikgu Dk Zunainah binte Pg Haji Aliuddin facilitated the meeting and workshop at the school library.

According to her, teachers will be able to manage and use the blog as a form of networking amongst school counsellors from both districts, allowing them to exchange ideas and update each other on ongoing plans.

It can also serve as a platform for school counsellors to obtain feedback and suggestions from fellow counsellors when problems concerning students arises.

The meeting and workshop was also assisted by another school counsellor, Cikgu Hasbul Wafi Fakri bin Abdullah @ Bundan.

Spreading anti-drugs messages to young students

The anti-drugs student group 'A-Team' from Sekolah Menengah PJN Pg Haji Abu Bakar in Kg Pandan Kuala Belait has continued their mission to spread anti-drugs awareness by conducting activities at Sekolah Tunas Jaya PGGMB in Kuala Belait.

The A-Team group of five student members from Year Nine visited Year One students of the school to educate the children about the danger of drugs.

For the anti-drugs activity, the A-Team decorated the Year One classroom with balloons and props to deliver a drama performance and to give knowledge and consequences of drug ause and trafficking.

In the drama, the A-Team gave a strong message for young students not to talk to strangers, follow and receive any suspicious gifts from strangers.

In addition, A-Team taught the students about different types of drugs such as marijuana, heroin, ecstasy and methylamphetamine or syabu and conduct a game where A-Team gave image illustrations and students had to identify whether the pictures are vegetables, fruits or drugs.

Later the A-Team distributed anti-drugs and anti-smoking leaflets and also gave away 20 copies of storybooks published by the anti-drugs group. The young students also received bookmarks with anti-drugs message to remember the repercussions of drugs and goodie bags with foods and drinks.

Accompanying the A-Team group were school counsellors, Cikgu Dk Zunainah binte Pg Haji Aliuddin and Cikgu Hasbul Wafi Fakri bin Abdullah @ Bundan who assisted in organising activities and programmes to raise drug awareness in the school.
